Art Reception with Jay Fleming "Working the Water"
Annapolis Maritime Museum will host photographer, Jay Fleming's, first show exhibiting works from his flagship book, “Working the Water.”
Local Annapolis photographer, Jay Fleming, has sent his first photography book, “Working the Water,” to press in Italy. While currently available for presale, the book is scheduled to be released in the United States on October, 1, 2016. While photography fans and Chesapeake Bay lovers anxiously await their copies, they will be able to view large format prints of photographs, only seen in the book, for the first time as they are displayed on the Annapolis Maritime Museum walls from August 18th to September 18th.
Fleming’s first book, “Working the Water,” is a visual narrative of the lives of those individuals whose livelihood is directly dependent upon the Chesapeake Bay. The book comprises photographs of seasoned watermen, scenic seascapes, weathered workboats and bay bounty — a true and complete depiction of Chesapeake Bay life. Equal parts informative and aesthetically pleasing, Jay’s flagship book, “Working the Water,” is relevant to the seafood enthusiast, the history buff, the biologist, photography fan, and Chesapeake Bay lover alike.
“Given the subject matter of Jay’s book, we thought that there was no more appropriate a place for an exhibit of his works than the Annapolis Maritime Museum. We are thrilled to host this exhibit and cannot wait to view our copy of ‘Working the Water,’” said Museum Executive Director, Alice Estrada.
Coinciding with The Museum’s concert in their summer concert series, “Tides & Tunes,” Jay Fleming’s exhibit will open on the night of Thursday, August 18th. Beginning at 4PM, the opening reception for the exhibit, open to the public, will last until 7PM and will be held inside. Hors d’oeuvres—smoked seafood and oysters on the half shell—will be provided by generous sponsors. Additionally, beer and wine will be made available by the Museum. Prints of Fleming’s work, as well as presale copies of the book will be available for purchase.
