August 6th, 2022 - Annapolis Photography Workshop

On the water for my fourth Annapolis photography workshop of August with this group of photographers from Maryland and Virginia. This was the first workshop of mine that each of these photographers had attended. After leaving the dock, we first went to the middle of the shipping channel and shot a silhouette of the bridge between the spans with an orange sky and dramatic storm clouds as a backdrop. After about 15 minutes of shooting under the bridge, we made our way up the bay - stopping at Sandy Point Light for sunrise and then Baltimore Light about 15 minutes after sunrise. We photographed the crabbers working around Bodkin Point at the mouth of the Patapsco River before heading up the river and into the inner harbor. After shooting the ships unloading at the Port of Baltimore and the trot liners catching crabs, we headed back to the dock for a 45+ minute run head on into a southern wind Back in the studio, each participant had a chance to edit their photographs and print their favorite on my large format Epson P9000.

August 5th, 2022 - Annapolis Photography Workshop

On the water for my third Annapolis photography workshop of August with this group of five photographers. Two of the photographers had been on the same workshop last year and were expecting to shoot the same scenes around the Chesapeake Bay Bridge - the crabbers at the mouth of the Severn River, Thomas Point Light and the ships anchored just south of the bridge. I decided to head north again and take advantage of the southern wind for a smooth ride up - the wind was forecasted to moderate as the morning progressed which would help make for a smooth ride back to Kent Island. We made the 25 mile run from the Bay Bridge to the inner harbor to photograph the crabbers in the Patapsco River and the ships unloading containers at the Port of Baltimore. The repeat customers were thrilled to photograph these different scenes on this trip - the great lighting conditions helped make me look good. Back in the studio, each participant had a chance to edit their photographs and print their favorite on my large format Epson P9000.

August 4th, 2022 - Annapolis Photography Workshop

On the water for my second Annapolis photography workshop of August with this enthusiastic group. We left the dock this morning at about 5:30am and found a with a stiff southern breeze and a falling tide, making for rough conditions in the channel at the Bay Bridge. I put the wind at my stern and ran the boat north about 20 miles up to Hart Miller Island where the wind was forecasted to fall out early. We photograph crabbers, lighthouses, tugboats and a few osprey nests. At about 9:30am we retreated from the heat to the air conditioning of the studio to print our work.

August 2nd, 2022 - Annapolis Photography Workshop

A great morning on the water and in the studio for my first Annapolis workshop of 2022 with members of the North Bethesda Camera Club. We had ideal conditions while out on the bay - light winds and clouds that kept the lighting conditions changing throughout the morning. After spending 3 hours on the water, we were in the studio reviewing photographs, critiquing and printing. Each participant got to take home a print of their favorite photograph from the morning.
