Five years ago, I hosted my first photography workshop on Vinalhaven Island- a small island off the coast of Maine. What began as a one-time workshop has grown into a tradition I look forward to every fall.

September is one of the best times to be on the water in Maine: warm days, light winds, and plenty of lobster boats to chase around. I just wrapped up my first of two Vinalhaven workshops im hosting this fall with a great group of photographers from Annapolis, Maryland. We spent four days exploring Penobscot Bay, photographing islands, lobster boats, lighthouses, and so much more.

Bringing my boat up from the Chesapeake gave us the flexibility to reach different locations and get close to the working waterfront in ways that make this workshop so special. I’m grateful to the photographers who joined me and to the Vinalhaven community for generously allowing us to document their life on the water.

Next trip starts tomorrow and I can't wait to do it all again!
